# Whiteboard Ink

> A whiteboard sketch draws one measured stroke at a time while a pen nib follows the active tip. Preset sketches (bulb, flow, rocket) or your own multi-stroke SVG paths via the strokes slot; a path marked data-ink=accent rides the accent token.

 *
 * It could not say where the author left the knob, which is the one reference
 * point a panel built around deviating from the author's choice needs: a mark
 * on the track is the default, and a double click puts the value back on it.
 *
 * And it printed the value in the label row, a fixed distance from a thumb that
 * moves, so reading a drag meant looking in two places at once. The value rides
 * the thumb instead.
 *
 * Still a real <input type="range">. Every custom slider on the web reimplements
 * keyboard stepping, touch, and the screen-reader contract, and most of them do
 * one of the three badly; none of what is added here needed the element
 * replaced. Nothing moves that a finger is not moving: the value tracks the
 * pointer because it is the pointer's own readout, and the only transition is
 * the colour one every other control here shares. */

  <!doctype html>
  <!--
    whiteboard-ink: HyperFrames video primitive (intros and reveals / ink draw)

    A hand-authored SVG sketch draws one stroke at a time while a pen nib
    samples the active path tip. The nib follows getPointAtLength during each
    draw and takes a short lifted hop between strokes.

    Strokes slot: the SVG ships an empty <g data-slot="strokes"> group. Fill it
    with your own <path> elements (in your installed copy) and those paths
    become the drawing; the sketch enum is ignored while the slot has paths.
    Mark one path data-ink="accent" to route it through the accent token map.
    Nib riding, per-stroke cadence, and the ink law are identical for slot
    strokes and presets.

    Variables:
      - sketch (bulb / flow / rocket): authored preset sketch; ignored when the
        strokes slot holds paths.
      - caption (string): short line shown after the drawing completes.
      - pen (show / hide): visibility of the traveling nib actor.
      - accent (green / blue / violet): one highlight stroke routed through a
        distinct contract token.
      - exit (none / fade / up): how the completed lockup leaves. none holds
        the final frame (frame roots own transitions); fade releases opacity
        only; up adds the small upward drift.

    Envelope, fixed IN and OUT with elastic HOLD only:
      IN_BASE = 3.55s, 3.25s sequential draw phase, then pen exit and caption
      HOLD     = max(0, D - IN - OUT), dead-calm completed lockup
      OUT_BASE = 0.45s when exit is fade or up, otherwise 0 (hold to the end)
      If D is shorter than IN_BASE + OUT_BASE, IN and OUT compress together.
      The timeline is never time-scaled.

    Ink law: every selected path is measured once with getTotalLength. That
    measurement owns its dash array, dash offset, cadence weight, and nib
    sampling. Dashed geometry stays in native SVG user units.

    Mount contract: the runtime clones only this template. #root fills the host
    box, establishes the container query basis, has no data-width or data-height,
    and registers one paused timeline under the literal whiteboard-ink key.

## Install

<InstallCommand command="npx hyperframes add whiteboard-ink" item="whiteboard-ink" />

That writes one file: `compositions/components/whiteboard-ink.html`.

## Paste it into your composition

Open `compositions/components/whiteboard-ink.html` and copy what is inside into your own composition.

A component has no size or duration of its own. It takes both from the composition
you paste it into.

## Variables

Every one of these has a default, so the piece works untouched. Set the ones you
want to change on the element:

| Variable  | Default         | Accepts                   | What it does                                                                        |
| --------- | --------------- | ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `sketch`  | `bulb`          | `bulb`, `flow`, `rocket`  | Authored preset sketch to draw. Ignored when the strokes slot holds custom paths.   |
| `caption` | `Draw the idea` | string                    | Short line shown after the sketch completes.                                        |
| `pen`     | `show`          | `show`, `hide`            | Show or hide the pen nib actor.                                                     |
| `accent`  | `green`         | `green`, `blue`, `violet` | Color used by strokes marked data-ink=accent (one highlight stroke in each preset). |
| `exit`    | `none`          | `none`, `fade`, `up`      | How the completed lockup leaves. none holds the final frame.                        |

Set them with `data-variable-values` on the element that mounts it. These are the
defaults, so this behaves exactly like the preview above until you change one:

```html wrap theme={null}
<div
  data-composition-id="whiteboard-ink"
  data-composition-src="compositions/components/whiteboard-ink.html"
  data-variable-values='{"sketch":"bulb","caption":"Draw the idea","pen":"show","accent":"green","exit":"none"}'
></div>
```

    whiteboard-ink: HyperFrames video primitive (intros and reveals / ink draw)

      HOLD     = max(0, D - IN - OUT), dead-calm completed lockup
